Shigar Fort

Located in the heart of Gilgit-Baltistan’s Shigar Valley, Shigar Fort (Fong-Khar, meaning "Palace on the Rock") is a restored 17th-century fortress original built by Hassan Khan, the 20th ruler of the Amacha Dynasty. Situated at an altitude of over 2,200 meters along the Shigar River, the complex serves as both a heritage museum and a luxury boutique hotel managed by Serena Hotels.

The structure showcases timber-and-stone architecture, featuring intricate carved wooden pillars, Kashmiri-style ceilings, and historic artifacts from the regional monarchy. Visitors can explore the museum wings displaying traditional Balti handicrafts, walk through the historic terraced gardens and orchards, or use the fort as a base camp for high-altitude treks into the Karakoram mountain range.
