Naran experience full snowfall on 14 October 2026 — valley white, roads and plans change fast

Naran turned white on 14 October
On 14 October 2026, Naran and the upper Kaghan Valley saw full snowfall — not a light dusting on the ridges, but a proper winter coat on town, roofs, and the road shoulders. The photograph on this page is the mood: peaks in cloud, wet pavement, and the valley already behaving like November. If you had autumn colour on your mind, the calendar just moved forward.
This follows the earlier closure of Babusar Top after snow on 11 October. We covered that pass shutdown in our Babusar Top closed for 2026 update. Babusar is the high crossing to Chilas; Naran below it can still receive guests when the Mansehra–Naran road and hotels are open — but snow changes jeeps, timings, and what you should pack in a single afternoon.
What “full snowfall” means for your trip
Full snowfall in Naran usually means: slower traffic on the Kunhar corridor, icy patches above Kiwai, chains or 4x4 on some hotel shuttles, and Saif ul Malook jeeps running only when the track is cleared. Lower bazaar shops may stay open with heaters; upper viewpoints close first. None of that is a surprise in mid-October — it is the end of the autumn Naran window we warned about — but 14 October was the day the valley looked fully winter on the ground.
- Confirm the Mansehra–Naran road the morning you leave Islamabad, not from last week’s reels.
- Ask about Lake Saif ul Malook jeep status separately — snow on the lake road is not the same as snow in Naran town.
- Pack waterproof boots and a warm layer; wet snow at 2,400 m is colder than it looks in photos.
- Do not plan Babusar, same-day Chilas exits, or Skardu-by-road over the top — the pass is shut for the season.
- Book hotels that are actually open on PTGTMS; we quote against live rooms, not summer availability.
What you can still do in Naran Kaghan
Naran town itself — see Naran sightseeing — often stays reachable when the pass is closed. Lulusar Lake on the way up from Balakot can still feature on a cautious day trip if the road is ploughing. Lake Saif ul Malook remains the classic add-on when jeeps run; after heavy snow, treat it as optional, not guaranteed. Shorter Naran Kaghan tour packages (three to five days from Islamabad) are the sensible shape: one base in Naran or Batakundi, lake days when the weather allows, and a flexible return if the road slows.
Book with live conditions — not last month’s brochure
Pakistan Travel Guide does not sell “snow guaranteed” or “Babusar open” in October. We sell packages with hotels and transport on the book. After 14 October 2026, that means WhatsApp checks on road, jeep, and room before we take a deposit — the same rule as every other Kaghan week.
Send your dates on WhatsApp or the enquire form, with group size and starting city. We will match you to published Naran plans and live hotels, cut Babusar if it is closed, and tell you plainly if Saif ul Malook is off for the day you travel.
