Naran Kaghan Road is Open till Babusar Top

Naran Kaghan road will open on 15 May 2020, till then there are very little chances of road opening. Road to Lake Saiful Malook will open in the first week of June 2020. Road to Babusar top will open in the first week of July 2020. This year due to heavy snowfall in January 2020 which causes hurdles in opening roads early as compared to the previous year.

There are multiple locations where glaciers blocked the roads, 4 sites are before Naran Bazar, one on lake Saif ul malook road and multiple glaciers at Babusar road.

Saif-ul-Malook Lake is located at the northern end of the Kaghan Valley near in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistan. It is situated at an altitude of 3,224 metres (10,578 feet) above sea level. Saif-ul-Malook is one of the highest lakes in Pakistan. This is an oval shaped lake, spreads over a mile. Its water is clear, slightly in green tone with snow-capped peaks in the background. The lake is rich in eco-diversity and holds a number of marine species and is a home of the famous fish, Trout. Lake Saif-ul-Malook is a famous tourist destination.

How to get there:

The lake is open for visitors from June to September, 10 kilometers from Naran Village. Saif-ul-Malook Lake is accessible through 4×4 vehicles via Naran Valley. Jeeps are easily available in Naran Bazar. The journey takes about an hour, on a shingled road, starting from Naran. The whole path fills with captivating beauty.

No trip to Kaghan Valley is complete without a visit to the legendary Lake Saif-ul-Malook. The lake is named after Prince Saiful Muluk, who fell in love with a fairy from the mountains.

Trekking:

The lake is accessible by a 14 kilometres road from Naran through Mansehra/Balakot/Kaghan. The trek from Naran to the lake takes about 4 to 6 hours, only for those who are fit and having stamina, enough for climbing up to 3,000 feet, of eight kilometers lengthy trekking trail. A jeep can be rented from the bazar and can be reached to the top in an hour. The water is clear and this clarity of the water is due to the multiple glaciers, all around the high basin, which feeds the lake.

Weather:

A very pleasant weather awaits visitors to Saif-ul-Malook Lake during summers. The weather here is moderate during day time while the temperature drops to minus during nights. Lake remained frozen in winter due to heavy snowfall. It makes the trek, tough to reach, only trekkers can access to the lake because of snow-falling.

Fishing:

Lake Saif-ul-Malook is a home of famous and delicious Trout fish. Angling is a popular activity in the Naran and Kaghan Valleys. Fishing in crystal clear water of Saif-ul-Malook is favorite pastime for many tourists, as the lake is full of brown and rainbow trout. A permit can be obtained from Fisheries Department at Shinu or from Naran. Bringing your own angling gear is an option, because it can be hired from the Naran Bazar. Fishing nets and all kinds of explosives, for fishing in rivers and lakes, are prohibited. They are harmful not only for the healthy and sustainable growth of trout fish but also for other marine-life.

Camping:

Camping at Saif-ul-Malook Lake, on full moon-lit night, gives a feeling of sitting in the fairyland. A few camping sites are available and it is strongly recommended to enjoy camping there, because scenic beauty of the Lake Saif-ul-Malook deserves to be appreciated at night. There are small huts and shops near the lake, where eatables are available for the tourists yet trekkers are advised to carry meals and water etc. along with them.

The Kaghan Valley situated in Mansehra District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistan. This Valley is a popular tourist attraction in Pakistan, because of its pleasant weather and its natural charm. The valley has been built after the colossal Earthquake in 2005.
The Valley stretches at 155 kilometers (96 miles), its highest point is at elevation of 2,134 feet (650 m), the Babusar Pass (Babusar Top), at 13, 700 feet (4,176 m).

Trekking and Hill Walking

Kaghan is a magnificent hill-station with a wonderful trekking trails and lush green scenery. There are numerous trekking routes in the Valley. Naran, Shogran and Sharan are fantastic hill-stations for outings for leisure-seekers for short trips, side-walks or nature study-walks.

River Rafting:
River Rafting and Kayaking are newly-introduced sports, along the Kunar River. Kunar River is a lifeline of Kaghan Valley, with excellent rafting waters. Some parts of the River, between Naran Vallley, are technically suitable only for experienced white water paddlers. Above Naran and below Balakot are suitable for the beginners, for fun-lovers and is relatively at easy level. Kunar River Rafting Enterprise (Pvt.) Limited offers basic and advanced training courses in running waters during October and April respectively. It organizes rafting joy-ride during June and August, for common tourists, who visit Kaghan Valley.

Tourist can enjoy short jeep rides to Sri Paya, Saiful Muluk, Lalazar and Shogran. Kaghan Valley is ideally famous for thrilling jeep rides from Naran to Babusar Pass and Noori Top (12780 ft.). These places, with unique landscape and blessed by nature. When you want to go on long journey on jeep, make sure you should accompany a competent driver and your jeep must be in a good working, for a safe journey on the rough and patchy roads.

Fishing:

Fishing in the Kaghan Valley is another favourite hobby of the tourists. Fish-hunting of brown and rainbow trout in the crystal clear water of lakes and in the Kunar River, is a pastime for leisure-lovers. A fishing permit will be issued by the Fisheries Department at Shinu or Naran. Tourists can get angling equipment on rent from Naran Bazaar, or bring the gadgets along with them. Fishing-nets and use of explosives, is prohibited for fishing in rivers and lakes of the Kaghan and adjacent Valleys.
Mahasher:
Kaghan is heaven of fisheries. Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout and especially Mahasher are abundantly found in pure silvery waters of the Upper side of the Valley. Trout of Kunar River is considered the best throughout the Sub-Continent. Fishing licenses are issued by the ‘Fisheries Department, Naran or by the ‘Trout Hatchery’ at Shinu. There are some private trout fish farms at Kawai (or Kiwai) and at Kahania as well. Angling equipments are easily available here.

Mountaineering:
Mountaineering and Rock Climbing in Kaghan Valley, has a lot of potential. Malika Parbat or “Queen of Mountains” (5, 290 m) is the highest peak in the Kaghan Valley; which is climbed by the European as well as Pakistani Climbers.
